#GLNRChamps: Amazing Davis breaks another record

Edwin Allen’s Kevona Davis underlined her status as one of Jamaica’s brightest prospects for the future, after smashing yet another record, lowering the Class Two girls 200m mark to 22.72 seconds at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships on Super Saturday.

Davis, who went faster than Anneisha McLaughlin?s 23.13, set in 2003, on Thursday night when she clocked 22.92 seconds, had no challengers in this afternoon?s final when she won in a spectacular 22.72 seconds, just one-hundredth of a second off Simone Facey?s National Junior record.

Manchester High?s Kavia Francis took second in 23.58 seconds and Julien Alfred of St Catherine, like she did in the 100m final, claimed bronze, this time with a clocking of 23.74 seconds.

Davis will next be in action for the 4x100m relay final later tonight.

Hydel’s Gabrielle Matthews produced a late surge to win the Class Three 200m final in 23.60 ahead of Tina Clayton of Edwin Allen, 23.71 and Shenese Walker also from Hydel High, who was third in 24.19.

In the Class Four 200m final, Hydel’s Alana Reid clocked 24.78 seconds, leading Wolmer’s Mickayla Gardener, 25.14 and St Jago’s Asanneya Tomlin, 25.31 to the line.
